Portable GPS Question?

What's the better deal:

Magellan Roadmate 1212 Portable Navigation System with a 3.5 inch screen and Text-To-Speech Guidance for $99

or

Magellan RoadMate 1412 Portable GPS Auto Navigator with Large 4.3" display, Text-to-speech and 6 million POI's for $149?

Portable GPS Question?
They're rather similar, actually. Which one is the better deal depends on the display size you want. I actually prefer the smaller 3.5" screen, but most people prefer the larger 4.3" widescreen.

I want to buy a GPS system. Please help me choose.?

Which one should I get? They all range at about the same price...

Magellan Roadmate 1470,

To be honest with you, I've heard a lot of crap about the Magellans, so you might want to stay away from that one. The two Garmin's are nearly identical, but the 265WT rates better (and has the FM traffic receiver, a plus). Your best bet is the Garmin Nuvi 265WT. If don't have your mind set on one of those three, you may also want to consider a cheaper one. They don't have all the fancy gadgets like Bluetooth and whatnot, but they get the job done. I myself have a cheap RadioShack one, and it has not failed to get me out of a situation yet. In fact, it's usually better at getting me places than Google Maps or that horrible Mapquest.

Can this power supply power my GPS?

Was wondering can this http://www.shopxscargo.com/product_catal鈥?/a>

power my Magellan Roadmate 700? The power supply gives out 20 Watts, the A/C adapter that came with my GPs says "Input 100-240V ~ 50/60Hz Max 0.32A Output 12V 1A"Can this power supply power my GPS?
YES if your GPS came with a USB cable to connect to the computer then you use the USB connector on the pocket power it is essentially the same thing "IT Will Work"Can this power supply power my GPS?
no... wouldn't even attempt it... most gps systems are only 5 volts... anything more... and you won't like the results!!! now... if you're talking about using the cigarette lighter plug with the gps... then yes it will... but do not connect the 12 volts to the gps in any other manner... without the lighter plug provided

  • How do i geocache?

I have a Magellan Roadmate 2200t, but its portable and I want to try geocaching but i don't think it lists my coordinates, is there a way to find them or do i need to download a specific software? How do i geocache?
I use a Magellan Explorist 210. Basically the instructions the last answer gave are correct.

Go to geocaching.com and register. Log in the lat and long of your "base" (home, work, wherever you decide to geocache from). Do a search for geochaches near your base point.

You can use the links at the bottom of the page to check all of the points and download them into a waypoint file.

Use the software Magellan gave you, Magellan RoadMate PC Tools, and the Magellan RoadMate POI Manager to transfer files to you gps unit and transfer the way points to your system.

The wyapoints you downloaded are in an ascii CSV file that you can edit using notepad. Geocaching.com makes people pay if they want the notes or hints in the download but you can enter them using notepad, if you want to take the time. How do i geocache?
I can't say that I'm familiar with Magellans (I use a Garmin), but if it is portable, there should be a feature that allows the addition of waypoints. These can be the locations of geocaches. You should have the ability to enter them manually, but there are features that allow you to download waypoints from the geocaching.com website, perhaps using the freeware programme EasyGPS. After the waypoints are entered, you don't need to view the latitude or longitude as the GPSr will treat the waypoint as a homing beacon and point you in the correct direction.

    Which GPS should i get?

I am able to get either a TomTom XL330 or Magellan Roadmate 1470 for free from Airmiles. Which one should I get? I will only be travelling Canada and USA. Which is better?Which GPS should i get?
    either one is good

whichever one is not made in China that would be my first consideration.

i would go for Garmin for better and newer updated maps and better hardware(Garmin GPS is what airline airplanes use, different system of course)

becareful it says REFURBISHED... this should send warning flags up. most REFURBISHED stuff is either damaged by the customer and then just resold by the store. get a new one.
