I have a Magellan Maestro 3100 and now just bought a Magellan Roadmate 1440.
Do I need to TURN ON the unit in order to charge? or just plug the charger.
Or, while the charger is connected, will they charge the battery even if they are OFF ?

It can be on or off the choice is yours.

The full charge will take about 4 hours, actually a little faster if the unit is off.
