Is there a monthly fee associated with GPS navigation?

I'm conisdering buying my husband this GPS navigator:

Magellan RoadMate 1445T 4.3-Inch Widescreen GPS Navigator with Traffic Link Receiver

I don't see anything saying there's a monthly service fee so once we plug it in, is it good to go? Any other information someone might have would be great since I'm out of my element here!Is there a monthly fee associated with GPS navigation?
No.

If you want map updated, you'll need to pay. But that's optional.

Some traffic receivers require a subscription. However, this is being phased out.Is there a monthly fee associated with GPS navigation?
the gps signal is free to use. all you need is a gps receiver. they dont call them that, but that is what they are. they are receivers - just like the radio in your car. you dont pay for the radio signal, it is free - you only need the receiver right? well the gps is the same way. you only need the receiver and viola free gps signal. i cant write it as good as i have read it, so you can read here for more research:

Nope! The GPS satellites are owned by the government and free for anyone to use.
