I have a Magellan Roadmate 2200t, but its portable and I want to try geocaching but i don't think it lists my coordinates, is there a way to find them or do i need to download a specific software? How do i geocache?
I use a Magellan Explorist 210. Basically the instructions the last answer gave are correct.
Go to geocaching.com and register. Log in the lat and long of your "base" (home, work, wherever you decide to geocache from). Do a search for geochaches near your base point.
You can use the links at the bottom of the page to check all of the points and download them into a waypoint file.
Use the software Magellan gave you, Magellan RoadMate PC Tools, and the Magellan RoadMate POI Manager to transfer files to you gps unit and transfer the way points to your system.
The wyapoints you downloaded are in an ascii CSV file that you can edit using notepad. Geocaching.com makes people pay if they want the notes or hints in the download but you can enter them using notepad, if you want to take the time. How do i geocache?
I can't say that I'm familiar with Magellans (I use a Garmin), but if it is portable, there should be a feature that allows the addition of waypoints. These can be the locations of geocaches. You should have the ability to enter them manually, but there are features that allow you to download waypoints from the geocaching.com website, perhaps using the freeware programme EasyGPS. After the waypoints are entered, you don't need to view the latitude or longitude as the GPSr will treat the waypoint as a homing beacon and point you in the correct direction.
