I have been out of bball for 2 months and I really miss it. Basketball is my life. The doctor recently took my cast off and said I should wait two more weeks before I start playing. Should I wait? What are the risks?Should i play basketball after recovering from a broken hand?
Listen to your doctor, and if you really miss it, you may play a soft game
It would be best to wait, your biggest risk would be a re-break, because off the cast, the bone has a recovered without any lateral forces(side-2-side), so there's a weakness in the recovered bone. Plus the ligaments, and muscle around it will be stiff, from being 'frozen' for 2 months.
By just easily using 'em for a couple of weeks, you're slowly warming the hand back up, to natural movement.
So I'd say wait the 2 more weeks, so you can let your hand get used to being active again.Should i play basketball after recovering from a broken hand?
Listen to the doctor. it might not have completely healed yet.
and we wouldn't want it to open more wounds or make more damage to the hand.
Dont Force it...if the doctor says 2 weeks, make it 4 weeks...
and Start with Hand excercises..condition your hand first..this way you could detect if you are ready for a full contact sport like basketball.Should i play basketball after recovering from a broken hand?
It takes time for bones to heal so give it enough time. Concentrate on other things like exercises to improve your jumping ability while you give it time.
