ok so im a 5'9 basketball player. I play as a point gaurd but i have one major problem, my direct drive sucks. My coach tells me me that its in my take off, I lean into my drive instead of a sudden take off. How can i fix this? What can i do to help my direct drive step in basketball?
You need an explosive first, so you need to work on your physical ability. the first step you are talking about is one of the most important tools in basketball. Stephan marbury in his prime literally drove at will because of it. if you watch his videos you would see he rarely crossed. don't get me wrong he had cross overs but all he had to do was "go" and he would pass his defenders. for such an explosive first step, you need explosive legs. you need to train for explosiveness. try jump programs. you may think that they are two different things but in reality explosive jump training is the base for an explosive first step. my proof? look at every dunker in the NBA don't they all have explosive first steps? all of them do. so try a vertical jump program you not only will gain inches to your vertical which will help you finish at the basket better and get off more shots but you will develop this explosive first step that can change your game.
if your really serious and like just want to take your game to another level then try a professional full program. its just as good as hiring a personal coach. What can i do to help my direct drive step in basketball?
try going from a cross over right into a drive. say you are going to take off with your right foot, cross over from left to right, and once the ball reaches your right hand, just attack the basket
