Why do basketball players point at someone after making a basket?

When I watch basketball on TV, I notice that after a player makes a shot the camera usually zooms in on him for a few seconds. Often, that camera shot catches him pointing at someone. I've noticed this my whole life. When I was a kid, I'd sometimes point at someone after scoring just because I thought it looked cool. But why do they do this? Why do basketball players point at someone after making a basket?
he points to the person that made the play, or gave him the assist to score. its just team support, it encourages other team members because its not all about the scoring, but the playmakers too.
Okay thanks. Now I can sleep at night! :D

They point to the person who set up the shot for them...

It is a way of saying "thank you"...
the person he is pointing at help make that play happen

like an assist or block or somethingWhy do basketball players point at someone after making a basket?
Well, most of them point..

But a lot of them stare and look at the defender...

It is just like sayin.. " You can't hold me ! "
they point at who helped make the play happen, such as a great pass for the assist, a great block, a great screen, etc. This is just a way of kinda passing on the credit and thanking them.
It's a way of thanking a person for a pass that was given to them. Also, if someone set them up for a shot with a pic, or a pass, then they are giving them credit for helping.
