At what age can we train our child in basketball? At what age can we start training a child in basketball?
About 8 years old.
About 9 years oldAt what age can we start training a child in basketball?
When He is able to dribble the ball and shoot it
It's great to start small. A 5 year-old kid would be perfect for formal lessons or even better, enroll him/her in a summer camp so that it would be enjoyable and it can even develop his/her sociability. Yes, 5 years old would be great.
But make sure that child has interest on the sport. You don't know but maybe he likes a different kind of sport. Like swimming perhaps. If he/she doesn't like sport, it would be hard for him/her to excel on it without the most important thing: passion. At what age can we start training a child in basketball?
"The first thing I teach children is how I shoot free throws."
"I get a hold of one of those plastic, durable basketball goals
that I find at a kids' toy store."
"I chalk line fifteen feet away from the front of the goal."
"That's just to show them the distance."
"After that, I take them to the baseline. Same distance of
fifteen feet."
"I get their form correct before I let them release the sponge
ball."
"I start them off with a sponge ball, to get them to grip the
basketball."
"This begins at the age of two. When they've first mastered
running at a toddler's pace."
"By the age of four, a women's basketball."
"At five, their own elementary school playgrounds."
"Scoring comes first."
"Dribbling second."
First of all, make sure the child wants to be trained in basketball b/c you can't force something on a kid that they don't want to do. Your question makes it seem like your going to buy them a trainer, give them steroids and send them onto the court......and that is not what basketball is about. Its about the passion to win and if they dont' have it then don't force them to have it.
Secondly, I started when I was in the 3rd or 4th grade.......so when they are 8 or 9 would make sense........of course, i WANTED to start then.
