How do I get my dog to stop licking my basketball hoop?

alright so we have a basketball hoop in our backyard, and my dog always likes to lick it. It's now rusty where she licks it, and I've tried to put barriers to stop her, but she just tears them off in like 2 minutes.

I've tried covering it in like 5 layers of plastic wrap and taping it.

Has anyone else had something like this, and how can i stop her from licking it? I don't want her to get lockjaw or whatever it's called. How do I get my dog to stop licking my basketball hoop?
Yeah, like 2thedogs said, you need to let her out more, take her on walks, especially if she's a hyper dog. My dog does similar things to this, and what I do is I squirt lemon juice on the spot, because dogs dont like that stuff

Hope this helps!
You could spray the hoop with something that tastes bad to the dog, but is non-toxic. Ask at a pet store or your vet for some. How do I get my dog to stop licking my basketball hoop?
guaranteed to stop dogs, cats, and ferrets from chewing up your indoor furniture, woodwork, shoes, and potted plants, christmas trees or in your case licking bball hoop a spray you would buy in petsmart. called Spray Away. Or sour apple or something
lemon juice? How do I get my dog to stop licking my basketball hoop?
Bitter apple spray. It got my dog to quit chewing on his leash immediately.
That type of obsessive compulsive behavior is not normal for a dog. You could certainly try some of the bitter apple spray or lemon juice as suggested, but to me is sounds like your dog is pretty determined, if not obsessed with this particular spot.

It is probably coming from the fact that she has some pent up energy or frustration. Bored dogs find ways to amuse themselves and sometimes they do it in very strange ways! I would suggest taking your dog out of the yard to get some intense excersize....go for a run, a swim, long walk, long game of fetch--whatever will tire her out. A tired dog will not obsess over things!

If you can, consult with a trainer too, they may have some good suggestions about redirecting her when she starts to obsess over the bball hoop. You could practice this on your own as well. Everytime she starts to do it call her over to her and give her a treat or her favorite toy. You may have to do this 100 times before she gets it, but eventually she might put it together that every time she gets that impulse she should run to you instead and will get a reward!

Good luck....
