I am 17 years old, 6'1 and 190 pounds. I am not to fast, so i need to work on shaving off a few pounds just to become more expolosive when i drive.
I have just under a month before basketball any quick work out schemes or diet propositions would be helpful.

You don't have to lose weight to be more explosive. If you did, football for example would be a very boring sport to watch. Actually, asking the football coach may not be a bad idea.
try speed training and quickness drills
